Banish All Their Fears - Alternate Blenheim Scenario - 1703 Battle of Hochstadt
1st Battle of Hochstadt
September 20th, 1703, Start time 7:20am
Modified Scenario for "Banish All Their Fears," Bayonet and Musket vol. 1
Setting:
Imperial Feld-Marschal Count von Styrum with 18,000 men is camped along the Danube between Greimheim and Scheweningen. He faces a corps of 10,000 men at Lutzingen under the Marquis d’Husson, and he has also received intelligence that another corps of 13,000 men under the Elector of Bavaria and Marshal Villars is marching to intercept him. Facing the prospect of being surrounded and destroyed by superior forces, Styrum orders a march to the northwest, towards Nordlingen.
Victory Conditions:
Imperials: Secure the road on the top-left corner of the map.
Franco-Bavarians: Rout two wings of the opposing army.
Note on Forces:
This scenario uses counters from the Blenheim Scenario of Banish All Their Fears, with a few from the Neerwinden scenario. The names of regiments and brigades do not accurately represent the forces present at Hochstadt, but forces used in this scenario approximate the number of troops present at the battle.
Note on Map:
Ignore all deployment and wing boundaries for the Blenheim Scenario.
Note on Terrain:
For the purposes of this scenario, none of the buildings north of the Nebel are on fire, since it takes place a whole year before the Battle of Blenheim. Unterglau and Weilheim can both be occupied and used defensively.
Note on Command Display:
D'Ussol's force will be represented as a single wing on the command display, in two lines, front and support. He can commit all six of his brigades to the Front line if necessary.
The Imperial force under Styrum is represented in three wings, two of cavalry and one of infantry. He can likewise deploy all his infantry in one line if necessary.
When the Elector arrives, his brigade tokens will be placed on the reserve line on the Allied side of the Command Display, but this will function in all respects as a front line.
Note on Unit exclusion:
Exclude the Grenadiers from Maffei's brigade, as well as Montboissier from Montbrun, both von Weickel units from von Weickel's brigade, and Costa and Torring-Seefeld from Wolframsdorff.
