Seneffe, 1674 - Part 6 - French Order of Battle

This image illustrates the development of French cavalry during the Franco-Dutch War, from buff coats to proper uniforms.

The following is the sixth in a series of posts about the Battle of Seneffe, the first five providing sources for the battle: 1) a translation of William of Orange's letters, 2) a selection from Quincy's Histoire Militaire. 3) a selection from Aumale's Histoire des Princes de de Condé, 4) a translation of a German broadsheet entitled Beschreibung der Schlacht, and 5) a diagram showing the French Order of Battle from the French National Library.

Using Rene Chartrand's Armies and Wars of the Sun King, I here post all the units I found to have been present at the Battle of Seneffe on August 11th, 1674:

It appears that in 1674, most of the French cavalry would still have been wearing buff coats, with the exception of the Cuirassiers du Roi and Royal-Piémont (Blue coats with red cuffs), Colonel-General Dragoons (Scarlet coats with blue cuffs) and the Dauphin Dragoons (Blue coats and cuffs). Most regiments had 2 squadrons.
